For Authors
Article types
Each type is assessed against the standard appropriate to it. State the intended type in your cover letter.
| Type | Indicative length | Peer review | Description |
|---|---|---|---|
| Research article | 6,000-10,000 words | Full external review | Original theoretical, computational, or empirical work with stated methods, evidence, and limitations. |
| Review article | 8,000-12,000 words | Full external review | Systematic or critical synthesis of an established body of work, with an explicit search or selection method. |
| Short communication | 3,000-4,000 words | Full external review | A single well-evidenced result, method, or dataset description. |
| Position and perspective | 3,000-6,000 words | Editorial and external review | Argued scholarly position on a question in quantum computing or quantum artificial intelligence. Argument must be supported, not asserted. |
| Case study | 4,000-8,000 words | Full external review | Detailed analysis of a deployed system, institution, or intervention, including harms and limitations. |
| Commentary and reply | 1,500-3,000 words | Editorial review | Response to an article published in this journal. The original authors are offered a right of reply. |
| Editorial | Up to 2,000 words | Editorial only | Written or commissioned by the Editor-in-Chief. Clearly labelled as an editorial. |
Lengths are indicative and exclude the abstract, works-cited list, and appendices. A manuscript is not rejected for length alone, but a manuscript far outside its type's range should explain why in the cover letter.
